Book Overview

Evil, manipulative Eunice Winslow is matriarch of the most prominent family in the town of Lebanon. Determined to find the right girl for Stephen, her son, Eunice coldly dismisses Sybil, his sweetheart, as a future Mrs. Winslow--wrong class and color. When Claire, fair-skinned and classy, comes to Lebanon, Eunice forces Sybil out of town, setting the stage for a hurt, lonely Stephen to fall prey to Claire's dubious charms.
