It All Began At This Creek

It All Began At This Creek - Book cover.

Good morning, readers of the Bountiful Zone Gazette. It was twenty years ago on this day that some of our older readers might recall. An entire town searched for a missing boy lost in the Forest of Poisonous Fruits. The boy was found forty-eight hours later at a creek without a single scratch on him. He was wearing only light clothing that would not have kept him warm during the cold night. Yet, something had kept him from freezing to death. The forest got its name from the poisonous fruits that grow there. But somehow, he knew which fruit was safe to eat. Then, the strangest part of all, the creek, was more than a kilometre from where he went missing. And the terrain was not easy for a child to cross, I know, because it was hard even for me.

He's all grown up now, and I tracked him down to see what he was up to. His family has a drilling business in Fruit Orchard Town, and it's safe to say that since his rescue, his life has been uneventful. The only drama in his life is his penchant for spicy fruit relish, which he and his brother make the most fiery concoction at home.

Yet, while reporting this "where is he now" article, I uncovered a more intriguing discovery: a rock. Yes, a rock, but not just any rock, a rock with its origin is unknown and unearthly. It may be a fragment of the theoretical meteorite that shattered the moon and gave us our ring around the Earth. However, this rock might bring about a solution to a crisis facing our world. And it all began at the creek where the young missing boy eventually was found.

About the author

J.S. Manning

The hardest thing to write is a bio. It isn't because I don't know what to write, but I don't know what to filter out. I studied art and originally wanted to travel and draw, yet my journey seeded ideas and visions of a literary universe. The best thing about being self-published is that there are no obstacles to bringing out an entire world from my imagination.
